Derek Eland is an exciting landscape painter and the current winner of the Upfront Cumbrian Open Exhibition.

He works mostly in a combination of acrylic and ink and his paintings highlight the patterns seen in the fields, fells, roads and rivers of the local landscape, using strong dark lines and slabs of colour. It is this boldness of line and colour which help define his work as contemporary and Derek wants to create reaction to his work: both positive and occasionally negative.

His work will be featured in this years Singer & Friedlander/Sunday Times watercolour exhibition at London's Mall Galleries.
