My work follows the tradition of abstract painting. I explore the effects of form and colour relationships on the canvas, aiming to produce a presence from a self-contained object. An attention to the physicality of the surface often references the process of painting itself. The paintings are not pre-conceived, but result from an internal logic which arises during their creation, through lengthy additions and revisions. A work is only complete when it consists of everything that I want in a painting, and nothing that I don't.
