This tour explores a succession of charming villages along the Eden and its tributaries.

Start out as for ‘Into the West’ but just past Yanwath turn south to the picturesque village of Askham. The route then passes the ruins of Lowther Castle to Hackthorpe.

Turn north on the A6 for a short distance and passing Melkinthorpe follow signs to Wetheriggs. Return towards Cliburn but turn south again to Newby. You need to head towards Appleby and the easiest route is probably through Morland and Bolton.

From Appleby head via Long Marton towards a succession of villages in the shadow of Cross Fell. The route lies through Milburn, Blencarn and Skirwith and returns to Penrith via Langwathby and the A686.
