My Studio is in the old church of St Michael, which dates back to the 12th century. It is opposite the Royal Oak Inn in Bongate and above the ancient crossing place of the River Eden below the castle on the opposite bank.

I am an intuitive abstract painter. Colour is my ongoing obsession.
Ideas and images can come from any direction - from ancient ethnographic artifacts to satellite images seen on tv - from exquisite oriental calligraphy to frantically overlaid urban graffiti - from the OS map or the landscape itself.
The painting process is an attempt to condense and fuse these images and experiences into objects that have their own identity in the world.
